If you went on one of these trips and have your own photos of videos, please share them with our Telra archive at https://bit.ly/TelraShare24 . You can help keep these field trips free of charge with your contribution to the Telra Annual Use fund! T elra A nnual U se fund ( 𝜏 au ) Thank you to the generous families who have helped us get to 5% of our goal in the first month of the launch of the T elra A nnual U se fund (𝜏 au ). As 2024 winds down, you still have a few weeks left to make a tax-deductible donation to support all we do at Telra. Many corporate matching programs have a cap that resets each calendar year, so don't miss your chance to double your impact! The launch video  explains why  𝜏 au is the top fundraising priority for the school, and how it can help us elevate your child's educational experience to world-class. You can do your part to help us keep field trips, school buses, clubs, technology, and other benefits of the Telra experience free of service fees (not to mention helping us attract and keep great teachers). Visit the   𝜏 au  home page  where it's quick and easy for you to support the cause. Your children spend more than 7 hours each day with us. Won't you help us make Telra into all it can be? iReady score reports Last week, students in grades K-8 took their mid-year i-Ready diagnostics in reading and math. i-Ready is a nationally-normed assessment used as an independent measure of growth, so that we (and you) can track your child's progress over time with a test that's not tied to Telra's curriculum (i.e., we don't teach to the test). Families can access their child's results in the iReady Parent Portal at any time. Visit i-ReadyConnect.com  and log in using the credentials below Username = Student ID number ( you can find this in Alma ) Password = telra Click on the For Families  dropdown and select the For Families report . Enter the Telra District Report Code: NNXHJ4 As you look at the scores, please keep in mind that all tests have an error range, and it's not unusual for individual test administrations to show little growth (or sometimes even negative growth). These scores are most meaningful when we track growth over years. For more help interpreting the scores, see the attached file Computer Science awards Telra students have been busy learning how to express themselves through computer code in Mrs. Gururaj's class and participated in the CMU CS Academy Fall 2024 Creative Task Competition. Our students’ projects stood out among numerous submissions from schools across 65 countries worldwide that use this curriculum. Grace Jordan (6th grade) won 1st place for her exceptionally detailed work featuring Kawaii characters and showcasing her grasp of event-driven programming concepts work in Unit 2 Ronan Kirk (7th grade) took 2nd place for his Ping Pong game in Unit 3 which introduced concepts of Conditionals.  See these works and more projects from Telra students on our CS Showcase website . Flag football Experience the fun, teamwork, and excitement of flag football at Telra. If you're in grades 5-9 and might be interested in participating in an intramural co-ed flag football league, let us know in the form below. If we get enough interest, we'll launch the program this spring!

After a strong showing in our inaugural year, we aim to do even better this year under the leadership of Professor (and parent volunteer) Tao Hong. Math Team is Telra's competitive math program for students who want to represent the school in individual and team-based math contests. Students in the Math Team are expected to have a mastery of first-year Algebra. Math Club is a separate program (coming soon) that provides enrichment for students not yet ready for the Math Team Math Team tryouts began last Thursday after school, and there will be a make-up session on September 12. The Sep 12 meeting is only for students who (a) qualified for the Math Team on Sep 5 or (b) missed the tryout on Sep 5 and still want to try out. Tryouts will be done using the Algebra 1 course challenge on Khan Academy along with 7th and 8th grade and geometry course challenges as supplemental measures. The Math Team will have additional opportunities throughout the year to try out, so if you didn't make the cut this round, don't get discouraged. Study at home and come try again in a few months! If you want to join the Math Team weekly meetings or in the tryout, be sure to update your dismissal plans . Competitive basketball Telra is looking to organize some teams this year to participate in the winter MARA basketball. We need interested parent coaches and students to fill out our form to let us know if there is enough demand to fill one or more teams. Teams will have one afternoon practice per week at Telra, and approximately one game each weekend between November and March. We will take into account student preferences when assigning explore classes, however, we cannot guarantee that all students will get their first choice. Additionally, we are seeking parent volunteers to support our teachers in leading these Explore classes. We’ve simplified the process for signing up and getting approval. If you're interested, please complete the parent volunteer survey linked below. For any questions, feel free to contact Matthew Lamb at matthew.lamb@telra.org . You can join some virtual sessions for test strategies and practice on Tuesday evenings. Use the button below to register. Drama Club - Tale of Two Cities "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." In an effort to bring a taste of the Fine Arts to Telra we are launching a Drama Club this year. This will be a way for students to creatively express themselves, learn to speak in a performance setting, and have fun. As many of our students are learning about the French Revolution, we've selected A Tale of Two Cities , which tells the stories of two connected families in 18th-century London and Paris, exploring everything from love and loss to murder and family intrigue, thus teaching us about history, ethics, and the complexity of human relationships. We'll be using a play adaptation designed for middle & high schools. 6th-9th grade students, now is your time to be a star! Here's what to do: First, review the list of characters in this Audition Script and think about the parts you might want to play. Second, fill out the interest form here . (You'll need to be signed into your Telra account). Note - the form will ask you to select an audition date between Nov 18 and Nov 26. Be sure to talk to your family to make sure you can stay afterschool on that day. Third, choose an audition time slot by writing your name on the form on Ms. Litowski's classroom door (room 320). Finally, bring a printed copy of the Audition Script to your audition and be prepared to read/recite a couple of pages of dialog from your favorite character(s). Parents, if you want to volunteer to help Ms. Litowski put on this production, please email Sarah.Litowski@telra.org Demystifying College Applications Join us on the evening of November 20, as we welcome James Edge of Edgeucation to Telra. Demystifying College Applications Come and learn about the best ways to approach preparation for the college application process from someone who helps students earn admission to the most prestigious colleges in the US. We will cover timeline, application materials, admission exams, teacher recommendations, extracurriculars, assessing value, university reputation, and questions you may also have, so please bring your curiosities about this frequently overwhelming process. This free talk will cover anxiety-inducing items as well as ways to best celebrate your student's achievements and ensure they have every opportunity to attend the best university they can. This talk is aimed primarily at students in grades 7+ and their families - people who might be beginning to think about the college application process and what they should be doing now to position themselves for success. Please register here for the 6pm talk on Nov 20 so that we can plan accordingly James Edge, a Georgia native, was raised primarily by his grandparents due to his parents' commitments, which granted him independence in pursuing his interests. Excelling in the Honors Program at the University of Georgia, he chose English over more conventional majors, aiming to improve his critical thinking skills. After briefly considering law and business, he worked as a tennis pro before pursuing graduate studies in English literature at UGA and later at the University of South Carolina. There, he completed his doctorate, met his future wife, and honed his teaching skills. Joining Providence Day School, he made significant contributions across various departments and pioneered initiatives like the Social Entrepreneurship Coordinator role, organizing impactful events. Now seeking to further connect with students individually, he aims to maximize his impact in one-on-one sessions through Edgeucation . Telra High School Information Session Curious to learn more about our plans for Telra's high school? Come armed with questions on Thursday evening, December 5th at 6pm and we'll supply the answers! Let us know you're coming here so we can be ready to welcome you. This session is targeted at families of students in 8th and 9th grades, though it's open to all.
