Happy Friday, Telra Families! There's a lot happening in this issue:

Tonight - Friday Dec 8 - Spirit Night at Panera Arboretum

Join your Telra friends for Sprit Night at the Panera in the Arboretum shopping center at 3207 Pineville Matthews Rd. Grab some dinner from 4-8pm and show this flyer to earn 25% back to support our school! (Ordering online? Use the promo code FUND4U at checkout)

After dinner, stick around for some festive fun from 6-8pm. Face painting, outdoor entertainment, giveaways, snow, and photos with St. Nick! (Look near the Chili's.)

Next week is our winter book fair

Here's a checklist to make sure you're ready:

  • Sign up as a volunteer

  • Deposit funds in your kidCredit account. (You can get refunded for any unspent funds at the end of the book fair.)

  • Mark your schedule for our two Family Events on December 14th to socialize with other Telra families and staff.

    • Breakfast and Books (7:00-8:10am) - Families can savor pastries, coffee, and shop the fair. A nominal fee of $5 per family is requested to cover breakfast costs for families attending.

    • Snuggly Storytime (6:00-7:00pm) - Come and join us on the evening of Thursday December 14th for our Snuggly Storytime family event. Kids, bring your pajamas and something snuggly to settle down for hot cocoa and storytime with some surprise readers!

New in Alma

Did you know that you can find your child's report cards, grades, assignments, and attendance in Alma?

Teams is still the primary place to go for full details on classwork, assignments, and links to resources. However, we have begun syncing this information to Alma to make it even easier to keep up with your child's progress at school.

Grades and assignments will be posted on Teams first and there could be a lag of a few days before you see them in Alma. If Alma falls way behind, please send your teacher a gentle request to sync their gradebook and publish their Alma grades.

Next year's calendar

Telra's 2024-2025 academic calendar is now available. Some key dates:

  • First day of school is August 19 (note, we are not designating any "orientation" days this year)

  • Fall break is 9/28 - 10/6

  • Thanksgiving break is 11/27-12/1

  • Year-end break is 12/21 - 1/5

  • Spring break is 4/12 - 4/21

  • Last day of school is June 10

Start making those fall/winter/spring break plans!

Guidelines for giving

Telra is blessed to have many involved and generous families. And, especially at this time of year, parents are eager to express this gratitude through volunteering, kind words, and sometimes direct giving.

Returning Telra families may recall there are limits placed on this giving by the NC Educator Code of Ethics and by IRS regulations. In order to protect staff, enhance the professionalism of their school culture, and preserve their 501c(3) tax status, private and charter schools are increasingly putting policies in place to guide teachers and parents in the area of gifting. Telra received legal advice on this issue 2 years back and joined area schools such as Charlotte Latin in putting a policy in place which is summarized on the attached slide.

We appreciate your generosity and awareness of these Guidelines for Giving
